Tony Cunningham

Gainesville Regional Utilities’ (GRU’s) General Manager, Tony Cunningham, is a professional engineer with more than 26 years of experience in the utility and engineering industry. He has worked at GRU for more than 20 years, first as an engineer in the Water/Wastewater Department, to overseeing the department, which consisted of more than 160 employees, three plants, and a $67 million budget.

Mr. Cunningham also played a significant role in negotiating union contracts for employees throughout the utility and City of Gainesville and spearheaded communication efforts among GRU’s entire leadership team.

Mr. Cunningham received an engineering degree from the University of Florida.

GRU is a multi-service utility owned by the City of Gainesville. It is the fifth largest municipal electric utility in Florida. Its combined services make it the most comprehensive utility service provider in the state, serving approximately 93,000 retail and wholesale customers in Gainesville and surrounding areas.
